For everyone who loves getting outside — or is ready to give it a try.
We’re Jay and Keith, the current editors of CampGear. We’re enthusiastic campers who love the UK outdoors and the challenges that come with it.
For us, camping can mean a family trip to a well-equipped campsite, a glamping break with swimming pools and rainfall showers, or a backpacking adventure in the Scottish Highlands. There’s room for all of it here.
Experience, including the bits we got wrong
We’ve spent a long time choosing kit and hours researching how to make our trips work well. We haven’t always got it right. We’ve made mistakes, taken risks we wouldn’t take again and seen other people learn the hard way too.
CampGear is a place to share what we’ve learned: the useful knowledge, the wrong turns and the questions worth asking before you set off.
Useful advice, without the lecture
We want to help you make informed decisions about where you go, what you take and how you make the most of the UK outdoors. Understanding the risks is part of that, but it shouldn’t turn every conversation into a telling-off.
Our aim is practical guidance that helps you understand your options and make decisions that suit your trip. We’ll explain the trade-offs, share our perspective and keep the focus on getting outdoors.
Your kind of camping belongs here
Whether you’re planning a family retreat with every comfort or dreaming of a solo trip with your backpack and a quiet view, you’re welcome here. We hope CampGear helps you find your own passion for camping.
